The Subtle Truth. 009 - Lawrence Greene
Today’s guest is someone who I have known for over 20 years. We met at our local public pool back when we were kids and have stayed friends ever since. I remember when we were teenagers, we would meet up, sit in the car, listen to music and have fun coming up with raps. We both always had a passion for music and it’s so cool to look back on that now that we are both following that passion and making a career out of it.
With all that being said, I am happy to introduce you all to an incredibly talented and versatile artist who goes by the name Lawrence Greene.
Lawrence Greene is a Montreal-based singer and songwriter who plays around with different genres such as pop, funk, hip hop and r&b. He aims to bring a fresh Canadian version of hip hop and r&b to the World of music all while trying to make a positive impact in the hip hop culture. He restrains from using any violent or aggressive language in his music and provides heartfelt lyrics without any foul words. His first release “Better Days” came out in May of 2020 and he has been releasing music on a regular basis ever since. I really look forward to seeing where this journey takes him and hope some of you will become fans after getting to know him and listening to his music.
Q. In the past year you've already released over 10 singles, how does it feel to finally put your music out there for the World to hear?
A. I never though it would feel so rewarding, as an upcoming artist, having my music play across the country truly is my dream transforming into reality. It's one of the greatest feelings. I cannot wait to see how much greater this feeling gets!
Q. Why is it important to you to refrain from using foul language and violent terms in your songs?
A. As an upcoming black artist, I want to create a positive change in the music industry, that starts by excluding drug use, violence, money, gender discrimination and foul language in this music journey. Growing up in Canada I felt that there was a big need for this, to help the younger kids stay off the streets and see the beauty their future holds for them.
Q. In what ways do you hope to positively impact the hip-hop scene?
A. Being an artist, I use the hip-hop scene to voice the issues that cultures are facing in society, to help build social justice, peace, community, respect, feelings of self-worth, and having a good, fun time without the glorification of violence, drug use, money and gender discrimination. I hope that I am the beginning of something that other upcoming artists and future generations will get inspired by and follow my steps of always pushing to be the greatest version of themselves they can be.
Q. What hip hop albums did you grow up listening to? Do you think these albums influenced you to create the type of music you've been putting out?
A. All my life I was, and am a Nickelback fan! Some of my favorite albums have to be "All The Right Reasons" and "Dark Horse" and yes, they are an influence on my music today; their career is a dream to live through for me. The music that they created throughout the years inspired me to write inspirational songs and songs that won't limit my fanbase, I want to inspire everyone!
Q. If you could open up a show for any artist, who would it be?
A. Snoop Dogg! Without a doubt!!! his performances are always mesmerizing and memorable! It would truly be an honor to open a show for someone so genuine, lovable as both an artist and person!
Q. I always enjoy asking at least 1 more personal/fun question so that our readers not only get to know you as an artist, but also as the person you are, So, my question for you is, other than music, what makes you smile?
A. Having fun with family and friends, being able to see the people close to me happy makes me happy. Everything I do, I do it with a smile :)
Q. Lastly, what upcoming projects would you like to inform our audience about?
A. YESS!! Up coming I have 3 amazing projects in collaboration with local artist: Lil Saiyan, Salez and Lisa Belle! New singles released every month!!! And many more great things to come soon!!
